Pretty Books
Aren’t books with painted edges beautiful? Some fantasy or romance books have the most beautiful editions with wonderful endpapers and painted edges. They’re far too pretty to dust away in an old bookshelf and one is tempted to build a display cabinet that would rival the British Library only to look at them every day.
Alas, I neither read fantasy nor romance. Problem.
Well, off course YouTube academy to the rescue. ‘How to paint your book edges‘-videos are there by the dozen. Problem solved.
Not quite. While looking for instructions, the nasty algorithm fed me some other vids from ‘How to rebind a paperback to hardcover‘ to ‘Beginner Bookbinding‘ and before you know it, you’re knee-deep into a new craft. I discovered ‘real’ bookbinders who share their craft, like DAS, Chanel or Ido Agassi and discovered a whole new world of things you can do with paint and paper. Exciting is a huge understatement. I fear all my other projects have to take a backseat for a while while I explore this whole new world of craft. Paper, paint AND books together? Who could resist?
